Overview
Budget Buddies is a gamification app designed to help people stick to their budgets. While there are many apps and sites that are designed for this purpose, many users lack the motivation to either properly update or stick to the budgets that they set. Budget Buddies aims to overcome the lack of motivation that many users might have when it comes to budgeting by creating an app that creates an enjoyable and rewarding experience for when users manage to save money.

Details
The assignment consisted of making a prototype for the app. The first part of the app is the budgeting part. Users can enter in details about the budget that they want to stick to - entering in details such as the duration of the budget, the different categories of spending and how much they want to spend in each category. Once the budget is done, users can then quickly add in details about their spending, which then gets updated to the app. At the end of the budget period, the unspent money in the budget gets added towards their in-game cash pot. This can then be spent buying cosmetics for their pet or new activities that they can complete with their pet to increase their pets happiness.
Contribution
The team that I worked with on the project consisted of two programmers (plus 1 game designer and 1 Artist). For the creation of the app I was responsible for writing the code for the budgeting aspect of the app. This involved using Unity's player prefs and Singleton objects to store information between the different screens (scenes), as well as keeping that information for when the user leaves and re-opens the "app". This process also involved taking input from text fields and dropdowns and re-using the information.
